Problem
On a UC500, the SPA504 would register auto register but when you apply the directory number and restart the phone its screen would go blank

if you do a debug ephone register you get

The following document states the problem is

Conditions
Problem is seen when registering any 500 series phone to a CME on UC520 platforms. The
problem only occurs when the ephone tag value for this phone registration is 56 or higher.

The only problem is that my phone tag is 1 :S

Solution:

uc500(config-ephone)#do sh run | s ephone  1
ephone  1
 device-security-mode none
 mac-address E05F.B982.4737
 max-calls-per-button 2
 type 504G
 button  1:297
uc500(config-ephone)#

You have to force max calls per button to 2 and then specify the type of phone.  Reset the phone and it will be okay 🙂

uc500#sh ephone registered
