phone stuck on “configuring ip”

we recieved a call where the phone was stuck on “configuring ip”. I had a look at the Switch and could  not see the MAC address of the phone and all of the ports are up. Since there was something to do with L1/2, i had a look at the power inline to see if there was anything unusual

Hmmm…  every other phone was showing “IP Phone 7906” one was showing “Ieee PD” (IEEE Powered Device), not only was this device not being identified correctly, it was drawing the wrong power and having problems staying up.

to correct the cdp issue, i disabled cdp and re-enabled it and it recognised it as a cisco phone providing it with the right power.

Device recognised as Cisco IP Phone again and registered to CUCM
